Insulators kicked out for shady dealing

ABOUT 100 companies have been booted out of the Federal Government's ceiling insulation scheme for dodgy practices.

More than 1200 complaints have been made about the $2.7 billion scheme.

The Government is spending up big on free ceiling insulation as a way of cutting greenhouse-gas emissions. The program is worth up to $1200 to each household.

Amid claims of installers inflating prices or doing dodgy jobs, federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett announced ''about 100'' companies had been ditched.

Fire authorities have reported house fires started by poorly installed insulation batts.

The Federal Opposition says dodgy insulation companies are putting lives at risk in the mad rush to get a slice of the Government's $2.7 billion program.

Greg Hunt, the Opposition spokesman for climate change, says fire authorities in four states have reported house fires started by poorly installed insulation batts.

100 New Roof Insulation Jobs

100 new jobs have been created in the past 3 months since the Australian Government's $4 billion Energy Efficient Homes package started. 

Australian Insulations have opened up new offices recently with operations now in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Gympie. 

This expansion has seen us become one of Australia's largest Insulation Companies with our 100th person being hired this week as a direct result of the program.

Insulation scheme will create jobs

The Federal Government says jobs created by its home insulation scheme will not disappear once the program finishes.

The Energy Efficient Homes package announced yesterday is expected to create about 4,000 jobs in the insulation industry.

Employment Participation Minister Mark Arbib says there will still be work in the sector even after the scheme ends.

Green loans about to begin

Environment Minister, Peter Garrett said Australian home owners will be able to make their homes more energy and water efficient with 1000 home sustainability assessors ready to begin work and credit providers signed up to commence the rollout of the Green Loans Program from July 1.

"Through Green Loans we are making it easier for 360,000 Australian homeowners to learn what they can do to make their homes more energy efficient from an accredited assessor."

Rudd's plan to insulate Australia

About 2.2million homes will get free ceiling insulation, saving families $200 a year on energy bills, as part of the Government's new economic stimulus package.

The Government will also double the $500 ceiling insulation rebate for 500,000 rental properties.
